Florida Senators Bash Biden’s Decision to Stop Using DNA at Border to Combat Child Trafficking

0

In response to reports that President Bidens’ adminstration directed the Department of Homeland Security to discontinue DNA verification among children at the border, Florida’s U.S. Senators Rick Scott (R) and Marco Rubio (R) co-authored a letter with Tom Cotton (R-AR), Ted Budd (R-NC), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) addressed to U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) Alejandro Mayorkas.

In the letter, the senators demand that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) continue to conduct familial DNA testing at the U.S. southern border. This letter follows recent reports indicating that CBP will stop using “all familial DNA testing” at the U.S. southern border this month which will significantly increase the risk for children to be exploited and trafficked through fraud schemes along the U.S. southern border.

The letter is pasted below:

Dear Secretary Mayorkas:

Recent reporting indicates that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) plans to end “all familial DNA testing” at the U.S. southern border on May 31, 2023. We write to demand that CBP continue to conduct familial deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) testing at the U.S. southern border.

As you know, familial DNA testing has played a vital role in combatting child trafficking and family fraud. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General (OIG), from June 2019 to September 2021, 8.5 percent of all rapid DNA tests came back as “negative for claimed parent-child relationships.” Further, in fiscal year 2019, CBP noted that “Board Patrol agents identified more than 6,200 fraudulent family members.” This action also follows recent reports and Congressional inquiries pertaining to the Biden Administration’s willful neglect of migrant children who have fallen victim to labor trafficking in the United States.

After years of consistent inadequacy in addressing the crisis at the U.S. southern border and unwillingness to protect migrant children from exploitation, the decision to end “all familial DNA testing” will inevitably result in further exploitation of these desperate children. Specifically, it will enable human smuggling and trafficking and will deepen the pockets of criminal enterprises seeking to traumatize and take advantage of vulnerable families and children. This result is unacceptable and your agency has a responsibility to mitigate and prevent such outcomes.

Given these concerns, we demand that CBP continue to conduct familial DNA testing at the U.S. southern border. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to your prompt response.

Tennessee Senator Introduces Bill to Recover Hundreds of Billions in Unemployment Fraud

0

Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) joined Finance Committee Ranking Member Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) to reintroduce a bill, known as “The Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act.” According to Blackburn, the bill would help recover funds lost to unemployment insurance fraud and provide incentives for states to recover fraudulent payments.

Unemployment insurance fraud during the pandemic was widespread and unacceptable, and taxpayers footed the bill,” Blackburn said. “Those who broke the law in receiving these payments must be identified and held accountable. The Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act will empower state governments to find and prosecute those who committed fraud, recover the stolen funds, and help prevent unemployment insurance fraud on this scale from happening again.”

The Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act would advance efforts to claw back federal funds stolen through unemployment insurance fraud and pursue recovery of fraudulent payments by ensuring aggressive identification, investigation and prosecution of criminal fraud in pandemic unemployment programs. It also gives the federal government and states better tools to detect and prevent future fraud in federal UI programs. The U.S. House of Representatives, led by House Ways and Means Committee Chair Jason Smith (R-Mo.), passed a companion bill (H.R. 1163).

The Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act:

·       Allows states to keep 25 percent of recovered fraudulent overpayments of federal funds.

·       Allows states to use recovered funds to improve program integrity and fraud prevention.

·       Allows states to keep 5 percent of state UI overpayments, conditioned on meeting data matching integrity conditions and dedicating those funds to preventing future fraud.

·       Extends the statute of limitations for criminal charges or civil actions from 5 to 10 years.

In addition to Senator Blackburn, the bill is co-sponsored by John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), John Kennedy (R-La.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), John Thune (R-S.D.), and Todd Young (R-Ind.).

Mississippi Senators Vow to Repeal Biden’s Student Loan Plan

Americans continue to debate the pros and cons of student loans, and President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan has been a popular target of criticism for conservatives across the country. Earlier today, Mississippi’s Senators Roger Wicker, (R) and Cindy Hyde-Smith, (R) today reiterated their staunch opposition of Biden’s student loan debt transfer plan. Hyde-Smith and Wicker also pledged to vote to for Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution (H.J.Res.45). which would overturn the president’s rule. The CRA has already passed the U.S. House of Representatives. Wicker and Hyde-Smith cosponsored the Senate version.

“The president’s plan never had any legal footing, and it is an insult to working Americans who chose to avoid student debt or have repaid it in full,” Wicker said. “This is not a ‘forgiveness’ plan. It’s an unconditional debt transfer. Repealing this scheme would protect our current workforce from footing someone else’s bill and teach our next generation that they cannot expect others to pay for their obligations.”

Sen. Hyde-Smith warned of a burden transferred being transferred to other Americans rather than being resolved. “President Biden is leading Americans to believe he can make student debt disappear because that sounds much nicer than the truth, which is that he is just handing over the burden of student loans to hardworking Americans who have either paid off their loans or chose not to borrow,” Hyde-Smith said. “This legislation would block this socialist scheme and protect Mississippians from being forced to pay off someone else’s debts.”

In March, the Mississippi senators joined 45 of their Republican colleagues in a companion CRA resolution after the Government Accountability Office announced that the policy is classified as a rule and eligible to be overturned under the CRA. The resolution S.J. Res. 22 would stop Biden’s plan to transfer up to $20,000 in student loan debt per borrower onto taxpayers with no conditions, costing an estimated $400 billion.

According to a news release from Sen. Wicker, the CRA would also end the pause on student loan payments, which costs taxpayers $5 billion a month and has been extended six times under the Biden administration. The pause will have cost Americans a total of $195 billion by the time Biden’s most recent extension is set to expire in August.

Justice announced that he had approved up to 50 West Virginia National Guard (WVNG) Soldiers and Airmen to deploy to Texas for up to 30 days to support Operation Lone Star (OLS) as a part of an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) from Texas.

“In response to a letter requesting aid from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, I have approved the deployment of members of the West Virginia National Guard to help secure our border, reduce the flood of fentanyl, and combat the human trafficking crisis,” Justice said. “Several governors are doing this because the situation on our Southern Border is terrible, and I want to make sure we’re doing our part. Polls Show Majority Think USA is on Wrong Track, Disapprove of Biden’s Performance

Discouraging numbers continue to plague President Joe Biden as he enters the summer with potential Republican opponents lining up to challenge his re-election campaign. According to new poll results from Rasmussen, only 28% of Likely U.S. voters think the country is heading in the right direction, while 67% of voters believe the nation is headed down the wrong track, remaining the same as a week ago.

According to Rasmussen national telephone survey of 2,051 U.S. Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports from May 21-25, 2023. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 2 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.

Voters also seem just as dissatisfied with Biden’s performance. Rasmussen’s latest report shows only 23% of the voters they surveyed strongly Approve of the job Biden is doing and 45% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -22.

Biden’s approval numbers reflect similar sentiment among videos during this same time during the 2022 Memorial Day weekend, when 25% said the United States was heading in the right direction, while 68% said it was on the wrong track.

Rasmussen has shown a tendency to over represent conservative sentiment, they aren’t the only major poll that shows Biden struggling to keep his public image in a positive light. A poll by the Economist and YouGov showed Biden’s disapproval at 52%. Monmouth’s Poll from mid May showed Biden’s disapproval at 54%, and his approval at 42%.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene Introduces Articles of Impeachment Against Attorney General Merrick Garland

0

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) introduced Articles of Impeachment against Attorney General Merrick Garland.

in an official press release, Greene stated:

“Since Merrick Garland took over as Attorney General in March of 2021, he has completely weaponized the Department of ‘Injustice.’ The politicization of the DOJ has resulted in the persecution of the left’s political enemies, and a two-tiered justice system.

Garland has used the FBI as a personal police force for his boss, Joe Biden. From investigating parents who protest their local school boards, to going after pro-life activists and Catholics, to persecuting former and future President Donald J. Trump, Merrick Garland’s corruption knows no bounds.

Antifa and Black Lives Matter terrorists have caused billions of dollars of damage to property. Instead of prosecuting these crimes, Garland has persecuted Americans who engaged in legitimate political protest, people who were overwhelmingly nonviolent.

The DOJ’s persecution of Joe Biden’s primary political adversary, Donald J. Trump, is anti-American. Raiding the former President’s home for legally declassifying documents is a transparent violation of justice. Persecuting a declared candidate for President of the United States is nothing short of election interference.

Therefore, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland must be impeached.”

It’s of the utmost importance that we continue to honor those men and women who lost their lives in this noble pursuit. This legislation expresses that the Members of the House of Representatives support our law enforcement officers, appreciate all they do for our communities, and honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.”“On this National Police Week, we show unwavering support for our law enforcement officers who selflessly dedicate their lives to protect and serve,” said Congresswoman Letlow. “Their commitment deserves our utmost gratitude and respect.”More than 100 bipartisan Members of the House of Representatives joined Congressman Guest and Congresswoman Letlow as cosponsors of the legislation. Former Trump – Appointed HHS Sec. Says It Would Be ‘Really Difficult’ to Vote for Trump in 2024

Former HHS Secretary Tom Price, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, told Georgia political talk show host Ben Burnett that he would have a difficult time supporting Trump if he were to win the 2024 Republican Presidential nomination.

“It would be really difficult,” Price said. “I don’t know what I would do, but it would be really difficult. His notion on what the politics and the debate ought to be in this country, and how it ought to be played-out, I think we’re better than that as a nation. We need to be better than that, as a nation. We need to be more thoughtful. It would be tough.”

Price didn’t officially endorse any particular candidate, but said he’s looking for a candidate who will widen the Republican voter base. He lauded the work of Nikki Haley, a former fellow Trump cabinet member and former South Carolina, as well as Sen. Tim Scott, also of South Carolina.

“I think she [Haley] would probably make a pretty doggone good President,” Price said. “I’m a huge fan of Tim Scott. I served with Tim in the [U.S.] House before he went over to the Senate. Tim is sincere and honest, and forthright. As upstanding of an individual as you will ever find in the world of politics. I think he would also make a good president….I’m all for the next generation.”

Other Republicans praised by Price included Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu. Price also said that he thought the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as “Obamacare” was going to be repealed in 2017, but Republicans got in their own way.

“Folks will remember that President Trump had said that he wanted to Obamacare to be repealed on his first day,”Price told Ben Burnett, a political talk show host based in Atlanta. “Virtually every Republican had campaigned on repealing Obamacare.I knew it was going to be difficult, but it wasn’t like we went into this thinking that it was not possible.”

During the same interview, Price reflected on his tenuous relationship with Trump throughout the Obamacare repeal effort to a general contractor assigned to one of Trump’s development projects.

“We didn’t know each other well,” Price said. “I wasn’t a general and I wasn’t a billionaire, or a governor. I think he basically viewed me as the general contractor for Obamacare repeal, hearkening back back to his building days, up in New York. I think he was told that by folks who knew him well, that this is the guy you can count on to get this done. When that didn’t happen, that really soured our relationship, and I think he lost confidence in me.”

When it came to the failure of the legislation, Price said the bill insufficiently addressed the most crucial aspects of necessary reform.

“Truth be told, it wasn’t a very good bill at that point,” Price said. “It didn’t really do what needed to be done. There was a lot that needed to be done. We had 52 Republican Senators and it just wasn’t going to happen. The votes weren’t there to make it happen. The politics up there are frayed, and it’s a huge challenge.”

When Burnett asked Price if Trump’s outspoken criticism of Sen. John McCain may have swayed McCain to vote against the bill, he said he suspected so, but he thought the bill was going to pass by one vote, because Sen. Mitch McConnell wouldn’t have brought the bill up, otherwise.
