Polls Show Majority Think USA is on Wrong Track, Disapprove of Biden’s Performance

Discouraging numbers continue to plague President Joe Biden as he enters the summer with potential Republican opponents lining up to challenge his re-election campaign. According to new poll results from Rasmussen, only 28% of Likely U.S. voters think the country is heading in the right direction, while 67% of voters believe the nation is headed down the wrong track, remaining the same as a week ago.

According to Rasmussen national telephone survey of 2,051 U.S. Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports from May 21-25, 2023. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 2 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.

Voters also seem just as dissatisfied with Biden’s performance. Rasmussen’s latest report shows only 23% of the voters they surveyed strongly Approve of the job Biden is doing and 45% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -22.

Biden’s approval numbers reflect similar sentiment among videos during this same time during the 2022 Memorial Day weekend, when 25% said the United States was heading in the right direction, while 68% said it was on the wrong track.

Rasmussen has shown a tendency to over represent conservative sentiment, they aren’t the only major poll that shows Biden struggling to keep his public image in a positive light. A poll by the Economist and YouGov showed Biden’s disapproval at 52%. Monmouth’s Poll from mid May showed Biden’s disapproval at 54%, and his approval at 42%.
