Resolution Honoring Fallen Law Enforcement Officers Led by Mississippi Congressman Michael Guest Approved in House

Below is a press release from Mississippi Congressman Michael Guest.

A resolution to honor and memorialize fallen law enforcement officers that was introduced by Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03), joined by Congresswoman Julia Letlow (LA-05), was approved in the House of Representatives. The resolution was considered during National Police Week and recognizes the 556 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2022 or those whose stories were lost until now. The legislation passed the House of Representatives under suspension of the rules.“Police officers make up the thin blue line that protects our communities from crime,” Guest said. “They dedicate their lives to defending innocent citizens from those who seek to do harm, and they provide critical public services that help make the lives of their neighbors easier. It’s of the utmost importance that we continue to honor those men and women who lost their lives in this noble pursuit. This legislation expresses that the Members of the House of Representatives support our law enforcement officers, appreciate all they do for our communities, and honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.”“On this National Police Week, we show unwavering support for our law enforcement officers who selflessly dedicate their lives to protect and serve,” said Congresswoman Letlow. “Their commitment deserves our utmost gratitude and respect.”More than 100 bipartisan Members of the House of Representatives joined Congressman Guest and Congresswoman Letlow as cosponsors of the legislation. Congressman Guest introduced a resolution to recognize National Police Week in 2019, 2021, and 2022.

Congressman Michael Guest represents Mississippi’s Third Congressional District. Currently serving his third term, Congressman Guest serves as the Chairman of the Committee on Ethics. He is also a member of the Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Homeland Security.
