North Carolina Governor Cooper Will Not Be Harris’ Vice Presidential Pick

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper removed himself from consideration as Kamala Harris’ potential vice presidential nominee on the Democratic Party’s 2024 Election ticket. According to a report in the New York Times, Harris informed her campaign of the news earlier today.

“This just wasn’t the right time for North Carolina and for me to potentially be on a national ticket,” the two-term governor posted on social media. “As I’ve said from the beginning,” Cooper said of Harris, “she has an outstanding list of people from which to choose, and we’ll all make sure she wins.”

“North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper opted not to be a candidate in Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate search, in part because of concerns that his Republican lieutenant governor would assume control when he travels out of state if he were selected,” the AP reports.

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is running against state Attorney General Josh Stein for governor, and most polls show the race within the margin of error.

Cooper’s decision could keep North Carolina out of reach than Democrats would like, but recent polls suggest that each swing state is closer than when Biden was on the ticket. Other potential VP choices being vetted include Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro. Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg has been mentioned, but his home state of Indiana is considered a deep red state. Without Cooper on the ticket, Democrats will have to work even harder on the ground to regain the state in a presidential race. Cooper could have touted his ability to govern by comprising and reaching across the aisle with Republicans who controlled the state house and state senate. Ultimately, the entire election could come down to North Carolina and Georgia.

North Carolina Senator Tillis Co-Sponsors Bill to Ensure Only American Citizens Can Vote

North Carolina’s senior Senator Thom Tillis (R) recently co-sponsored the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, legislation requiring individuals to provide proof of U.S. citizenship in order to register to vote in federal elections.

“This commonsense legislation builds confidence in our election system by ensuring that voting in our elections is reserved solely for American citizens,” Tillis said. “As millions of illegal immigrants enter our country because of President Biden’s failed border policies, it is crucial we safeguard our democratic process by ensuring only American citizens can register and vote in our elections.”

Specifically, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act:

  • Requires states to obtain documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering individuals to vote in federal elections
  • Requires states to remove non-citizens from their official lists of eligible voters.
  • Establishes criminal penalties for registering an applicant to vote in a federal election who fails to present documentation proving U.S. citizenship.
  • Mandates the Election Assistance Commission adopt and transmit guidance for implementing the bill’s requirements to state election officials.

Rubio Introduces Bill to End Reliance on China for Critical Minerals

0

Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who is rumored to be among the three finalists for Donald Trump’s selection for Vice President, submitted a bill to end US reliance on China for critical minerals. Below is an official statement from Rubio’s office regarding the e Critical Mineral Supply Chain Realignment Act of 2024:

The Chinese Communist Party’s industrial monopoly on critical mineral-intensive goods is a national security vulnerability. To reduce China’s leverage, the U.S., its allies, and partners must break free from supply chains relying on Chinese minerals.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the Critical Mineral Supply Chain Realignment Act of 2024 to incentivize safeguarding critical mineral supply chains from Communist China.

  • “The U.S. and its partners must end Communist China’s critical mineral industrial monopoly. My bill will provide more certainty to industry based in the U.S. and partner and ally countries so they may be able to develop a critical mineral industrial ecosystem China’s market manipulations cannot undercut.” – Senator Rubio

Specifically, this bill imposes mandatory tariffs on electromagnets, permanent magnets, batteries, solar panels, and solar wafers at rates of:

  • 150% on goods manufactured by entities controlled by China, irrespective of which country the goods are manufactured in;
  • On those goods manufactured in China, 150% in the first year, 300% in the second year, 450% in the third year, and 800% each year after that;
  • 25% on goods manufactured in countries that are not allies of the U.S., select free trade partners, or members of the Mineral Security Partnership.

With the tariff framework established by this bill, the United States will be encouraged to work with trade partners to create tariff-free supply chains amongst themselves, sending a market signal that would quickly shift capital investments away from China and towards the United States, partners, and allies.

Virginia Senator Mark Warner Forming Group to Ask Biden to End Campaign

President Joe Biden’s re-election prospects could suffer another major setback. Multiple sources, including the New York Times and Washington Post, are reporting that Virginia Senator Mark Warner is gathering a group of fellow Democratic Senators to ask President Biden to end his campaign and allow a new face to represent the party as the nominee.

The Post’s report comes one week after Biden’s performance at the first debate was roundly criticized by members of his own party, including major national media pundits and former campaign workers. Earlier today, Biden vowed to stay in the race, saying that he won’t let one bad night wouldn’t ruin three and a half years of his work.
“I’m staying in this race. I’m not letting one 90-minute debate wipe out three-and-a-half years of work,” Biden said.

Marco Rubio, Raphael Warnock Introduce ‘Dads Matter Act of 2024’

Below is an official release from Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) regarding a bipartisan bill he introduced with Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock (D).

Studies show a father’s involvement during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum significantly improves the health and well-being of both mother and baby.

Ahead of Father’s Day, U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Raphael Warnock (D-GA) introduced the Dads Matter Act of 2024 to raise awareness and provide guidance about the importance of father involvement and engagement.

  • “Involved fathers are pillars of strength in our families, embodying resilience, guidance, and unconditional love. The Dads Matter Act would promote father engagement and lay the foundation for a stronger, more compassionate society.” – Senator Rubio
  • “Georgia’s maternal mortality rate is a crisis that we must address with every tool at our disposal. That includes redoubling our efforts to uplift the role of fathers in keeping their family healthy during pregnancy and early childhood. With Father’s Day quickly approaching, now is the time to spread awareness about the critical role of fathers in improving maternal health outcomes and creating thriving families and communities.” – Senator Warnock

Specifically, this bill would:

  • Direct the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to carry out a public awareness campaign to increase awareness of the importance of father inclusion and engagement in improving overall health outcomes during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
  • Direct HHS to issue guidance to states to encourage and incentivize maternity care providers to provide training and education to health care professionals about the benefits of including and engaging fathers in the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum process.
  • Direct the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to submit a report to Congress that describes the results and effectiveness of this legislation.

DeSantis’ Recent Veto Helps Small Businesses in Hemp Industry

Hemp groups praise Gov. Ron DeSantis for vetoing legislation critics say would have harmed Florida farmers.

Florida Healthy Alternatives Association (FHAA), a trade organization for the hemp-derived healthy alternatives industry, said the bill DeSantis vetoed was a dangerous and misleading piece of legislation that would have singlehandedly killed Florida’s industrial hemp industry and irreparably harmed Florida’s hemp farmers.

“Supporters of this bill wanted to sweep the hemp industry out of business in the state of Florida, and we want to thank the Governor for stopping it,” said JD McCormickPresident of the Florida Healthy Alternatives Association.

FHAA says Floridians rely on hemp and CBD products to avoid harmful and addictive medications. The hemp-derived healthy alternatives industry protects 18,000 acres of farms, over 100,000 jobs, $7 billion in direct revenue, and $15 billion in economic impact in Florida alone.

Bret Worley, CEO of MC Nutraceuticals, campaigned for months for the Governor to veto the legislation.

“I’d like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude for Ron DeSantis’ support of Florida’s regulated hemp industry. As an industry leader in advocacy, I look forward to working with the Governor and Florida Legislature next year to further solidify Florida as the gold standard for appropriate and safe regulation of hemp and hemp-derived products. Thank you again for protecting our regulated industry, the small businesses, family farms, and veterans that have come to rely on it.”

Hemp From Florida also praised the Governor. “This bill would have imposed harsh bans and restrictions on Florida’s well-regulated adult-use hemp industry.

Thank you, Governor DeSantis, for saving thousands of Florida jobs by standing with our state’s regulated hemp industry, farmers, and small businesses with your veto of SB 1698. Florida has always been a beacon of economic freedom and prosperity, even when the rest of the world shut down, and today Governor DeSantis sent a resounding message that Florida continues to be open for business,” the group said.

GOP Candidate for North Carolina Governor Implied US was Behind Patton’s Death

North Carolina’s gubernatorial race is polling as one of the closest in the nation. State Attorney General Josh Stein is the Democratic nominee for governor, and he has new material to attack his opponent, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, the Republican nominee. Researchers uncovered an interview with Politics and Prophecy podcast host Chris Levels from six years ago, when Robinson implied that the United States killed iconic war general George Patton, and questioned the validity of the official account.

Regarding General Patton’s death being the consequence of the accident, Robinson remarked, “‘How this guy ended up getting killed in a quote car wreck, I’ll never know,” adding. “I certainly don’t believe it. It’s just too fishy to me.”

During that same guest appearance on Politics and Prophecy, Robinson questioned America’s entry into World War II. After Spaulding mentioned that Japan bombed the US, but our material and effort went to Europe, Robinson replied, “It really calls to question the motives and the suspicion around our entire introduction into the war. It really does. It raises serious questions.”

OTHER CONTROVERSIAL COMMENTS BY ROBINSON

Before campaigning for lieutenant governor in 2020, Robinson said that the Black Panther movie was “created by an agnostic Jew and put to film by satanic Marxists.” The post is still up on Facebook as of Monday, June 10 at 10:15 p.m.

Poll: Illegal Immigration is a Top Concern Among Voters, Even in North Carolina

For logical reasons, America’s southern border states, such as Texas and Arizona, dominate news regarding the border security crisis, but voters in other states, such as North Carolina, are growing increasingly concerned about illegal immigration and its overall national impact.

Recent poll results from Rasmussen Reports and NumbersUSA revealed that 81% of Likely North Carolina voters surveyed believe it is important for their state to “use every tool available to combat illegal immigration”, including 58% who think it’s very important. Conversely, only 14% of North Carolina voters said it’s not important for their state.

“North Carolina voters across the board demand effective enforcement of the state’s mandatory E-Verify law,” said Andrew Good, director of State Government Relations for NumbersUSA. “It is long past time for the State Legislature and Governor Roy Cooper to ensure that employers in North Carolina are hiring only workers who are legally allowed to work in the state.”

The survey of 1,053 North Carolina Likely Voters was conducted on May 26-27, 2024, by Rasmussen Reports and NumbersUSA. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Other notable results from the poll:

  • 74% agree that hiring illegal workers harms legal workers by reducing pay, diminishing working conditions, and making fewer jobs available to North Carolinians, including 53% who Strongly Agree, compared to 21% who disagree.
  • 62% believe that when businesses say they are having trouble finding North Carolinians to take jobs in construction, manufacturing, hospitality, or seasonal work, it is general better for businesses to raise pay and try harder to recruit non-working North Carolinians even if it causes prices to rise.
  • 20% think it’s better for the government to bring in new foreign workers to help keep business costs and prices down, while 19% are not sure.
  • 46% of North Carolina voters approve of the job that Joe Biden is doing as president, including 26% who strongly approve, while 53% disapprove of Biden’s job performance, including 45% who strongly disapprove.
  • 76% would support a program that allowed state and local law enforcement agencies to partner with federal immigration authorities to better capture, detain, hold, and deport criminal illegal aliens, including 50% who would strongly support such a program, and only 15% would be opposed.
  • 65% would support a state law to charge a fee for money transfers out of the United States to help reduce remittances – money sent by foreign workers to their home countries.
  • 50% say that if their state representative voted against a bill mandating E-Verify, they would be less likely to support them in the future.
  • Only 20% would be more likely to support their state representative for voting against E-Verify, while 20% say it doesn’t matter and 10% are not sure.
  • 56% of North Carolina Republicans, 41% of Democrats and 52% of unaffiliated voters would be less likely to support a state representative who votes against an E-Verify bill.
