Tennessee’s US Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, both Republicans, are both weighing a run for governor, according to reports from Political Wire and Knox News.

Current Tennessee Governor Bill Lee‘s term expires at the end of 2026.

Steve Smith, the finance chair for Hagerty’s fundraising in the 2020 election, told Knox News the senator is focused on confirming President Donald Trump‘s federal appointees but said Hagerty is weighing his options.

“We have had dozens who have reached out to us (in support of Hagerty running for governor),” Smith said. “It is reasonable to assume a decision will be made in the next 100 days.”

Last month, Axios reported that Blackburn was making calls and telling people she is likely to make a bid for governor. Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio told Axios that Blackburn would be the clear frontrunner in the GOP primary for governor if she decided to run.
