North Carolina Congresswoman Valerie Foushee Comments on 1-Year Anniversary of Inflation Reduction Act
Alabama Congresswoman Terri Sewell Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act
Below is a press release from Alabama Congresswoman Terri Sewell.
Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, landmark legislation which continues to deliver for Alabama families. Over the last twelve months, the investments in the Inflation Reduction Act have lowered costs for Alabamians while creating new jobs, combating climate change, advancing environmental justice, and reducing the deficit—all without a penny in new taxes for Americans making under $400,000. Rep. Sewell was the only member of Alabama’s congressional delegation to vote in favor of the bill.
“One year ago, President Biden signed into law a historic piece of legislation that is bringing down costs for Alabama families, growing the middle class with new clean energy and manufacturing jobs, and making the largest investment to fight climate change in our nation’s history,” said Rep. Sewell. “I was proud to be the only member of the Alabama delegation to vote in favor of the Inflation Reduction Act, and I’m even prouder today as it continues to deliver for our families, our communities, and our planet. We’re already seeing the investments from the Inflation Reduction Act lay the foundation for decades of economic growth and cost savings, and soon our provisions to cap prescription drug costs will provide even more breathing room for Alabama families.”
Many of the Inflation Reduction Act’s responsible, pro-growth policies are already at work for Alabamians right now, with even more progress on the way:
Lowering costs for families:
- Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, the 31,000 people who signed up for a marketplace plan in Alabama’s 7th District are saving an average of $740 on their health care premiums this year.
- Caps insulin prices for seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries at $35/month, saving about 3,800 people in Alabama’s 7th District who use insulin an average of $400 annually.
- An estimated 367,000 Alabamians will save an average of $360 on prescription drugs every year when the $2,000 cap on annual out-of-pocket pharmacy costs for Americans with Medicare goes into effect in 2025.
- Allows Medicare to finally negotiate prescription drug prices starting in 2026, slashing prices and saving taxpayers nearly $100 billion over the next 8 years.
- Unleashes the power of cleaner, cheaper energy to save families hundreds of dollarson their energy bills every year and provides thousands of dollars in discounts to help families upgrade to more efficient appliances and vehicles.
Growing the middle class:
- Delivers a clean energy future, with over 170,000 new jobs and $278 billion in new investments already announced in 44 states, including 400 clean energy jobs and $205 million in investments right here in Alabama’s 7th District.
- Lays the foundation for the future of our economy with historic investments in clean energy and American manufacturing that are projected to create millions of jobs and reduce carbon pollution by 40 percent by 2030.
- Gives more Americans a path to the middle class by expanding workforce training and registered apprenticeship programs to create good-paying jobs that don’t require a college degree.
Promoting tax fairness and reducing the deficit:
- Achieves hundreds of billions of dollars in deficit reduction without a penny in new taxes on families making under $400,000 per year.
- Ensures billion-dollar corporations are contributing to the communities they rely on with a 15% minimum tax for large corporations.
- Gives the IRS the resources they need to take on wealthy tax cheats while improving services for families, reducing average wait times from 27 minutes to 4 minutes.

Kentucky Congressman Hal Rogers Applauds Dock Expansion Proposal on Lake Cumberland
Below is a press release from Congressman Kentucky Congressman Hal Rogers.
SOMERSET, KY — U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) applauds the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) new proposed Wolf Creek Dam and Lake Cumberland Shoreline Management Plan to expand existing private and community dock facilities. Congressman Rogers welcomed Lt. Col. Robert Green, Commander of the USACE Nashville District, to Somerset on Wednesday to discuss the details of the updated management plan.
“Lake Cumberland had a record number of lake enthusiasts and tourists last year, generating more money for our region than ever before. With more demand for water access, requests for dock expansions have also grown at Woodson Bend and other popular parts of the lake,” said Congressman Rogers, Dean of the House. “This proposed updated plan will make Lake Cumberland more accessible and more enjoyable for local families and visitors as our tourism economy continues to grow. I was happy to support local requests for expansion.”
Tourism generated nearly $145 million for Pulaski County in 2022, according to Lake Cumberland Tourism, a new record for local tourism spending. Statewide, the tourism industry also reached a record high of nearly $13 billion last year, according to the Kentucky Department of Tourism.
The public comment period will end on August 18, and the proposed plan will then move on for final review.

West Virginia Congressman Alex Mooney’s Statement on Fulton County, Georgia DA’s Indictment of Trump
President Trump has faced an unprecedent witch hunt from the Biden DOJ and radical leftist prosecutors. President Biden and his allies are using the full weight of the justice system to try to take down his likely opponent in the 2024 election.
Atlanta District Attorney Fani Willis is a corrupt, soft-on-crime radical. Under her watch, murders have spiked. She was admonished by a judge for a conflict of interest when she attempted to prosecute a political opponent, and she failed to disclose a relationship with a gang member her office was prosecuting. She is a dishonest prosecutor who has been accused of creating a fake subpoena.
District Attorney Willis should focus on the problems within her own city and office instead of creating frivolous charges against President Trump as part of this unjust crusade against President Trump.
Matt Gaetz Announces Bill to Defund US Postal Service’s Surveillance Program
Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz (R) reintroduced the ‘‘USPIS Surveillance Protection Act.” The legislation, if passed, would defund the Internet Covert Operations Program (iCOP), an domestic surveillance program operated by the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS).
The program has been a source of debate since a news report revealed USPIS’ iCOP surveillance government bulletin that was distributed by the Department of Homeland Security. The bulletin reported the program’s findings of “inflammatory” posts on social media accounts, including on Facebook, Parler, and Telegram.
In response to pressure from the House Oversight and Reform Committee, the USPS Inspector General released a report stating that “certain proactive searches iCOP conducted using an open-source intelligence tool from February to April 2021 exceed the Postal Inspection Service’s law enforcement authority.” According to Gaetz’ press release, there has been no indication that USPIS has shut down iCOP, likely meaning that this surveillance program is still potentially violating Americans’ privacy and First Amendment rights.
Rep. Gaetz’s legislation would prohibit any federal funds, including amounts available in the Postal Service Fund, from being used by USPIS to carry out iCOP, or any other similar program.
“The Postal Service should be focused on delivering the mail on time and on budget, not running a covert surveillance program to monitor political behavior on social media. This program is not only outside USPIS’ jurisdiction and infringes on American citizens’ civil liberties but is more evidence of the government-sanctioned spying on its own citizens. Congress must immediately abolish this program,” Congressman Gaetz said.
“The USP Inspection Service is operating outside of its USPS jurisdiction when it monitors internet users’ sharing of information as its jurisdiction is narrowly defined within postal mail only, An excerpt from the bill reads.” The iCOP program is a violation of privacy; it encroaches upon the private lives of Americans and seeks to curb constitutional rights of the First Amendment. iCOP is not only illegal for operating outside of its stated jurisdiction, but also politically mo24 tivated in its target.”
Currently, Gaetz bill doesn’t have any co-sponsors in the U.S. House.

Washington, DC – Congressman Joe Wilson condemned the deranged indictment of former President Donald Trump.
“Democrat derangement indicting Trump is dangerous for democracy as rule of law is undermined by political persecution. This spectacle now can best be corrected by restoring rule of law.”
